Judge Veena Iyer (EYE-ur) is a Ramsey County District Court judge appointed by Governor Tim Walz. Judge Iyer is currently assigned to the criminal division and handles felony cases. She also serves on the board of the Ramsey County Law Library and the district's Equal Justice Committee and leads outreach efforts to local schools. She is committed to ensuring equal justice for all.

Judge Iyer became a judge after distinguishing herself as a lawyer and leader. She started her career working as a legal aid attorney in Chicago. After returning to her birthplace in Minnesota, she represented businesses and nonprofits navigating the complexities of employment law at a local law firm. Immediately prior to her appointment, she was the executive director of a legal assistance organization serving new Americans. She was inspired to become a judge by the judges she clerked for earlier in her career, including Minnesota Chief Justice Natalie Hudson and Hennepin County District Court Judge Susan Burke.

Judge Iyer has always dedicated herself to making her community better. She serves on the board of Augsburg University and the advisory board of the Minnesota Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She has previously served on the boards of Minnesota Women Lawyers and Portico Healthnet and the advisory boards of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and the Minnesota Urban Debate League. Judge Iyer volunteers her time as a middle school and high school debate judge and loves getting to know her neighbors at local coffee shops.
